I am very interested in exploring virtual reality/augmented reality/mixed reality. If possible, I would like to take advantage of the creative nature of this class to implement an idea with VR/AR/MR technology.
Idea 1: Experience life in someone else’s shoes. An example of this could be a game with certain tasks, like gathering information or answering questions, along with in-game choices. I’m thinking of putting the user in the shoes of someone with a mental illness (like schizophrenia). If the user takes their medication for the “day,” they may lead a normal life without hallucinations, but may experience side effects. If the user doesn’t take their medication, they may experience hallucinations while trying to get through the game. (Inspired by Layers of Fear).
Idea 2: Gather empathy. May be put through different situations to start to understand other people and their experiences. A visual of this may be to start in a black and white world, and slowly add in color to symbolize diversity. Might be a game scenario where the user has to enter different areas to “collect” their empathy.
In general, I am always supporting any project that has “empathy”. :) Experience life in someone else’s shoes -> someone can be not necessarily only human, it can be a living thing? I recall someone had a bipolar disorder idea (Ben, I think) and maybe you guys can work it out. haha
I am also very curious about “gathering empathy” – I hope it is just not a coin-like thing in Super Mario. Maybe it can be fun to have visual reasoning components to figure out why someone is in a certain emotional mood maybe by revisiting their perspectives in the past? I think I did this already but, again, I recommend the book “Realizing Empathy”.
