Our project is a game called Spritequery, an introspective 3D puzzle platformer. Our goal is to allow players to take an in-depth look at themselves. Throughout the game, you will be guided by characters called “Sprites”. The Sprites will ask you questions that require the player to reflect on themselves with thought and care. The feeling and intent behind the player’s answers to these questions is analyzed through an algorithm, and then the player is transported to one of two levels based on the determined sentiment. Spritequery has a total of ten unique levels, but a player will only encounter five of them in any one playthrough, as the player is presented with five questions over the course of the game. Each level is designed to be a thematic visualization of the feeling behind the player’s answers. We created bright and dark-themed songs that we tied to the themes of the rooms as background music. Players are encouraged to explore each level by completing small puzzles and platforming challenges. As the player traverses the levels they can observe and consider the visualization and what it means to them. At the end of the game, the player is presented with all of their answers and their meanings.
