We explored the benefits and challenges of using a purely virtual environment as a test bed for augmented reality systems. We conducted a proof of concept study using a head and hand tracked, stereoscopically projected, four-screened CAVE for an investigation of the impact of registration error on performance for tasks requiring manipulation of virtually augmented objects.
