Members of the 3D interaction group received two awards at the 2014 IEEE Symposium on 3D User Interfaces, held Mar. 29-30 in Minneapolis. Felipe Bacim, Mahdi Nabiyouni, Cristian Moral Martos, and Doug Bowman were awarded first place in the People’s Choice award for the 3DUI Contest. This is the fourth time in five years that a 3DI Group team has won the contest. This year’s entry was “Slice-n-Swipe,” a set of bare-hand interaction techniques for 3D point cloud annotation.
Nabiyouni, Bireswar Laha, and Bowman received an honorable mention for the Best Poster award for their work on “Designing Effective Travel Techniques with Bare-Hand Interaction.” This research used the Leap Motion Controller and investigated how to enable navigation through 3D environments based on in-air gestures.
