About

Dr. Prater is a veterinary pathologist and immunotoxicologist who serves as Associate Dean for Medical Education at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Virginia Campus. Dr. Prater’s major research interest is the developmental origins of disease: the relationship between maternal diet and environment to fetal genotypic and phenotypic development, and the contribution of gestational environment to risk of chronic cardiovascular and metabolic disease in adult offspring. Dr. Prater’s research focus is molecular mechanistic explanation of modifiable environmental risk factors, and the role of the diet and the immune system in the regulation of homeostasis and preservation of long-term health.
