{"id":426,"date":"2015-04-01T14:03:02","date_gmt":"2015-04-01T18:03:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.cs.vt.edu\/csblog\/?p=426"},"modified":"2015-04-01T14:03:02","modified_gmt":"2015-04-01T18:03:02","slug":"margaret-ellis-cs-instructor-receives-engineering-inclusive-teaching-eit-educators-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.cs.vt.edu\/csblog\/2015\/04\/01\/margaret-ellis-cs-instructor-receives-engineering-inclusive-teaching-eit-educators-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Margaret Ellis, CS Instructor, receives Engineering Inclusive Teaching (EIT) Educator&#8217;s Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cs.vt.edu\/user\/317\">Margaret Ellis<\/a> is a recipient of the 2015 Engineering Inclusive Teaching (EIT) Educator\u2019s Award.\u00a0 This award is given by the Women in Engineering ProActive Network (WEPAN).\u00a0 The WEPAN helps educators craft inclusive engineering learning environments.\u00a0 Her project titled &#8220;Promoting Self-Efficacy in Computer Science\u201d is a collaborative project with CS faculty colleagues Jack Lesko, Manuel Perez-Quinones and Catherine Amelink.\u00a0 Their work looks at what\u00a0educational\u00a0practices can be used to\u00a0improve\u00a0the self-efficacy of undergraduate\u00a0students\u00a0in low-level Computer Science courses.\u00a0 Margaret said, &#8220;The project investigates what educational practices can be used to improve the self-efficacy of undergraduate students in Computer Science courses.\u00a0 Adjustments are anticipated to encourage long-term interest in Computer Science among all students but among underrepresented groups in particular.
