{"id":1968,"date":"2016-12-12T13:56:27","date_gmt":"2016-12-12T18:56:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.cs.vt.edu\/csblog\/?p=1968"},"modified":"2016-12-13T11:53:17","modified_gmt":"2016-12-13T16:53:17","slug":"eli-tilevich-awarded-grant-for-computational-exploration-of-music-performance-and-composition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.cs.vt.edu\/csblog\/2016\/12\/12\/eli-tilevich-awarded-grant-for-computational-exploration-of-music-performance-and-composition\/","title":{"rendered":"Eli Tilevich awarded grant for computational exploration of music performance and composition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/people.cs.vt.edu\/%7Etilevich\/\">Eli Tilevich<\/a>, associate professor in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cs.vt.edu\/\">Department of Computer Science<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.performingarts.vt.edu\/faculty-staff\/view\/charles-nichols\">Charles Nichols<\/a> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.performingarts.vt.edu\/\">School of Performing Arts<\/a>\u00a0have received a $10,000 grant from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ictas.vt.edu\/\">Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science<\/a> (ICTAS) to create a Research Experiences for Undergraduates program that will focus on computational exploration of music performance and composition.<\/p>\n<p>The goal of the program is to introduce undergraduates, with interests and background in both computing and music, in multidisciplinary research that creates computational and artistic approaches for exploring musical scores, with possible\u00a0applications for\u00a0automated performance guidance and advanced musical analysis.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to serving as a Computer Science faculty, Tilevich is also pursuing a parallel career as a <a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.cs.vt.edu\/csblog\/2016\/02\/02\/eli-tilevich-showcases-the-relationship-between-music-and-technology\/\">professional clarinetist<\/a>, engaged with various orchestral and chamber music ensembles nationwide as well as in solo performances.
