Experience the CSRC

The Computer Science Research Consortium (CSRC) is an event known to all CS majors whether that be famously or infamously. This event consists of almost 90 companies ranging from the big names like Google, Facebook, and Microsoft, to smaller, local companies like Modea and Appian. This event  is known fondly as the Career Fair to many students and is where most get their internships for the summer and full time job offers.

Attending one of these semesterly fairs is both stressful and invigorating. Events leading up to the event include the Career Fair Prep Session, the CSRC Luncheon, and a plentiful amount of Resume Review Workshops held by recruiters of the attending companies. Numerous tech talks, company presentations, and other events like the Women’s Networking Panel follow in the rest of the week.

The day of the event is full of bustling people in suits and ties looking sharp and presentable. Elevator speeches, resumes, and company notes are perfected either by weeks of practice or a mere midnight cramming session the night before. As one enters through the doors, it’s a bit overwhelming to see everyone there looking and acting their best, however once you start taking to the companies on your carefully planned list, you get into the groove of things too. You suddenly see your friends and are immediately comparing swag and reporting interview offers and complaining about how much work you have for the rest of the week. By the end of the day, 20 or 30 resumes later, you are exhausted and ready for a nap and to get back to the daily grind of the CS life.

Finally comes the following weeks of intense interviewing and interview studying and the waiting game to see if you were one of the many who conquered the CSRC and victoriously obtained an offer.
